A Rare Find

by Walter   Apr 2, 2021

I cannot choose a favourite place
From what has not yet been erased
I live in the suburbs, though they're green
With still some nature in between

There is a lake not far from me
Surrounded by forest trees
And still untouched by man's impact
Apart from one concrete track

It's so beautiful, to walk through here
Wildlife seems to have no fear
Kookaburra's will sing their song
And make you feel like you belong

Another place which I retreat
Of waves and sand beneath my feet
Where the dunes are still left so high
And secluded from all passersby

There is no sound but waves that crash
And bare feet making water splash
With sights that you cannot forget
An endless ocean with sunset

These places I will never tire
Unless it turns, to something dire
If man builds homes for ocean views
This part of nature, I will lose

If harbours are built upon the lake
With roads to drive there for man's sake
And what he claims as his, is theft
Because soon there'll be no nature left

I really liked that. Simple, clear lines with an important message, and a nice rhythm. I know it's the uncool thing to say, but I do love a rhyming poem.

Thanks Bradley for reading and your comment. And as you probably already know...I also love a rhyming poem.

It is so imporatnt, especially during these times, to have a little bit of nature at hand where we can find a degree of solace. I, too, am lucky to have a good deal of that around me and, like you, I never get tired of it. It's an ill wind that blows no good, as they say, and this pandemic has certainly made me appreciate all the more what I may have taken for granted at times.

    Take care, Walter

Thank you Ben, and I can't agree more with what you have said. I think we all need a place where we can escape to, and I am so lucky to have the places I mentioned in the poem within walking distance of where I live. And yes, I think I just presume it will always be there, but seeing how the land is being transformed closer to the city, does make me start to worry.

      Take care too :)
