Untitled (Pantoum form) Day 18

by Everlasting   Apr 19, 2021

“when I was a kid
I used to play in the garden”
I told her. “oh I surely did!”
She said, “I beg your pardon?”

“I used to play in the garden”
I told her, “let me speak”
She said, “I beg your pardon?
I replied, “come on give me a break!”

I told her, “let me speak”
She said, “I can’t hear you”
I replied, “come on give me a break!
You hear me loud and clear, don’t you?”

She said, “I can’t hear you.
Speak louder!”
“You hear me loud and clear, don’t you?”
I told her.

“Speak louder?
Really?! how much more do you want?”
I told her.
She said, “are you my aunt?”

“Really? How much more do you want?”
She said, “ just enough to hear you clear”
She said, “are you my aunt?”
I replied, “no I am not, dear”

She said, “just enough to hear you clear”
She asked, are you trying?
I replied, no I am not, dear
I said, please stop crying

She asked, are you trying?
“No,” i replied. “No. Shut up.”
I said “please stop crying
who are you? What’s up?”

“No.” I replied, “no. Shut up
You are driving me crazy
Who are you? What’s up?
Are you that Daisy?”

“You are driving me crazy”
I said, “Please answer me
Are you that Daisy?”
She said, “No, i am not. I am me!”

I said, “please answer me
Are you someone I know?”
She said, “no, I am not. I am me.”
I said, please tell me though

Are you someone I know?
She said, “I am”
I said please tell me though
Who are you ma’am?

She said, I am
In your head
“who are you ma’am?”
She said, I am dead...

“In your head”
She said, again and again
She said, “ i am dead
if you think of me no more again”

She said again and again
Please do not quiet your mind
If you think of me no more again
I’ll disappear with my kind

Please do not quiet your mind
She said
I’ll disappear with my kind
I asked, dead?

She said
No but almost
I asked, dead?
she said, I’m not a ghost

No but almost
I told her, “oh I surely did”
She said, I’m not a ghost
When I was a kid
