a mourning song. (napowrimo 2021 day 25)

by prasanna   Apr 28, 2021

blackbirds sing the mourning birds in –
and i echo their songs of lament,
with every breath of crisp april air,
i am reminded of you. i wish this
was not the case, but april is
synonymous of you.
that through feeling of loss –
the heart becoming a metal
anvil, your knees buckle under
the weight, and you’re left sobbing
on a cold ground, with
the birds still chirping.

prompt: a bird's clearly morning chorus, by em in the napowrimo thread

I do like this melancholy poem. I also like the play with words and as the sadness falls, the sad song surrounds it like watching a tree through bars of a cell.
