Passion's fight (shape)

by Mr. Darcy   May 10, 2021

Words in
parts are
shattered
tongues that seek to use a
blade. In muted courts you
hear them, bearing throats
as wine
to crave.
Behold
the men with sallow cheeks
for night will soon descend
and crush the skulls with
iron maul, bludgeon to
bloody blend. Drums
became a beat -
a hungry fist
avenging now;
for only tears
in verse are sunk
on beds of deathly vows.
Come now ye court, bear
shield and sword, today
rewrite this
life...demand
a sacrifice of
of hearts for
fire is passion’s
fight. Onward
the battle rose
and fell in tides
of lifeless blood.
As light became
an ember’s end
. . . man's beast
became the mud.
So moon did rise in
choking sky, a dove did
find a perch, and land upon a flag
of white, upright in chequered dirt.

Two questions...how do you get the shape? How do you still manage to keep the rhythm within the shape?

    Excellent write BTW :)

Thanks for asking. I would love to say it was easy, but it can take a lot of thought, trial and error. A good tool is writing on a centred Word document. As for the shape, this site restricts what shapes can be posted, but symmetrical shapes often work well, as long as they have no intricate appendages! lol As for the the rhythm, i have tried to use meter throughout. There are times i have to alter my ideal word choice for a one that fits the shape - all in all, it takes patience, but that is the same for most forms.
