Self-induced Insomnia

by Aegis   May 11, 2021

On nights like this it's not that
I can't sleep-
I just don't want to.

Much like the twinkling stars on this cloudless May night; I'm captivated
by the shadows of the TV dancing across
the silhouette of your face.

And as your soft snores finally lull
me to sleep during the twilight hours,
I smile and let out a sigh of content-

you're still my favorite reason
to wake up tired.

I loved this and, as Dad has already commented, it's a perfectly caught moment. There are some nights where I am tired, but I just don't want to sleep. It's like I don't want to waste the night. Beautiful :)

A moment caught wonderfully, and no one closes poems quite so well as you do on this site.

    All the best as ever
