I never realised back then that blacked out windows were keeping me safe, I was only 2 after all... I thought it was a huge game of hide and seek and even the adults were playing too; how naive a toddler could be. It wasn't until the police knocked wanting Dad; we'd been safe 6 months and I was distracted by the police man's hat - the bastard's had found us, they wanted us dead but I only knew 15 years later - My dad was a recovering addict and he owed dealers money: safe houses aren't always safe, my Dad was my king but for now I just wished he'd get better again, addiction kills, it's just a matter of time. ©Em
