Cutting ties

I found an old picture of us
and bile rose up in my throat -

if I knew then what I do now,
I'd never have glanced in your
direction.

I often blame myself
for falling so quickly
and so deeply -
but your charm was erotic

now I want to puke
the rest of you out of my system
and hope I never see you again;

just sign on the dotted line first.

    Photos can be as awful to view as they can be wonderful. I suppose that's because, when we take them, there is something positive there in the first place. But if, over time, that sours, then what can those still frames offer us but regret and painful nostalgia? To see something that was so good, frozen in time, is both tormenting and heart breaking.
