Regret.

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 24, 2021

I greeted the dawn boldly,
hoping to encounter a speck
of joy in the first light.

But, he cornered me,

and I had the gall to
defend myself.

He showed me how cruel
the day could become,
my face rotting at his
resurrected rage.

That's what I get for
opening my mouth,

a handful of flies and maggots.
