New York Slumber

by Maple Tree   Jul 28, 2021

I've slumbered in New York,
nestled within a hammock
for a number of years
but now
sun whispers;
Goodbye.

I'll follow the moon
like I have all of my life,
tip toe through
wild flowers once again.

Ill always have memories
of standing in the rain
as a stranger holds an
umbrella, kissing my hand
and calling me beautiful-

That was the day I knew
I would be able to go home
once again.

Oh Maple.... reading this poem feels like a dream. A new or perhaps just different part of your life as you travel. Going through the stages of life, making me think of settling somewhere and getting used to the routine, but knowing your home moves and resides in others miles away from you. Returning to them may harbor its own challenges, and though maybe you've found remnants of home in those closest to you in New York, it's like you've been sleeping and finally can feel again the fullness of home in crossing the distance to be with those you love.

    Wishing you the best <3
