Ticking Grenade

by Baby Rainbow   Sep 11, 2021

Now I know what everyone means
by alcoholics becoming scavengers of their own soul.
You are quickly becoming a man overboard.

You can never take back what you did,
but you will never find the light
by collecting big white lies.
I understand you need a way out,
but you will never be a man
that I could ever love or trust,
you will never ever ever,
be able to buy my love.

I will not let you drown me in your darkness,
I am staying out, staying right here
to explore the dreary sky you have hung above us now.

Take a look at us now,
walking by like strangers in the street.
I'm talking to you through my poetry
because I know my own value,
and you let it slip right by you
when you threw your grenade in my heart.

And before you have the nerve to try and walk back in,
please remember that I was not the one
who slammed the door and broke our family apart.
