Slip Through The Cracks

by Walter   Oct 3, 2021

My favourite cup broke
Because of neglect
It fell through my fingers
And now is all wrecked

On the floor it would smash
Into so many pieces
And collecting them all
Just never ceases

But I placed them all down
On top of a table
I'm determined to fix it
I think I am able

I found some strong glue
And each piece would stick
It was just like a jigsaw
To join them a trick

And slowly all pieces
Would start to transform
Last glueing the handle
My cup would now form

I let it all dry
On a shelf over night
In the morning so anxious
For my tea cup in sight

I boiled the water
And added some tea
Then poured it in my cup
So anxious to see

It was soon that I noticed
Through cracks it would leak
Although it looks fixed
Deep down it was weak

But just like a tear
The drops would all fall
Never again my cup
Would be like before

This story's the same
For anything we love
Some things can't be fixed
When push comes to shove

Once something is broken
And joined at the seams
You're convinced that you fixed it...
But tears will still stream

I’m always in awe of how well your poetry rhymes, how it flows. I love this. What a lovely comparison to be made. Anxious to see if the hard work has paid off, relating the dropped cup to neglecting a relationship. Beautiful.
