(Will We) Haunt Together

by Kate   Oct 13, 2021

Will we find each other when our worlds grow cold?
lost between the there and now
Unlike we used to walk along the brittle earth,
but now we’re buried six feet underground
Will I find your soul lurking in the shadows,
or will I now find you happy as can be
Will we haunt this earth together, you and me,
when death finally sets us free?

The first thing that came to my mind after reading this and your other recent ones is that you're versatile as a writer. From a rhyming piece to a shorter piece like this, I always enjoy reading what you share! I like the idea of haunting together, the question, the reaching out and wondering if this soul will search for you too. Also, the last line is sort of relatable, if this makes sense. How some people fear death, while others have different perspectives on it, whether that's feeling like it will be their end, or that they will be reincarnated... there's so many angles and emotions to feel about it. The idea here from this poem is one of wanting to be, even in the unknown, the in-between as you mention, not separated. It reminded me of lost souls who are wanting some peace of mind, and how easily that can be exploited versus other people wanting to help them pass on. What will become of us, and what will our haunting mean, what will it look like?

    Love the tone in this.
