Wedding Alone

He wears black dress pants and a blue plaid button-up
A Forklift Operator and
Music Maker

She watches wantingly,
Attention seeking-
Heart needing

He doesn’t dance
Doesn’t look
Oh, unrequited interest

She drinks the drinks
And when he comes to the bar
Her heart skips a beat

He talks to the new brunette
And in her woe, she knows
It is time to go

Wow-what a powerful piece from start to finish! I admire your ability to link everything together so seamlessly.

You have painted a beautiful and realistic portrait of this day, this event, and feelings buried underneath it all. I like the selection of words you have used to engage the reader and provide them with the key to the event you speak on. The longing of someone and then being hit with the realization that they may be into someone else. It is a hard pill to swallow. I love the detailed description of this piece too. You describe both people so vividly it is easy to imagine this event happening in my mind like a motion picture.

    Lovely write.

This poem leaves me as a reader to wander about the what ifs..it speaks but doesn't show just reveals the feelings of the woman. Good write!
