Butterflies

by Kate   Oct 18, 2021

I thought this feeling was long gone
An elusive creature and I was their poison
I spent countless nights completely alone
Ignored by the people who said they cared
So I no longer looked, I no longer checked
And I shut the world and everyone out

Until now, until you
My face spreads into an automatic grin
My stomach flutters in anticipation
At the thought of your words, your mind
Picturing the smile behind the texts
Excited for new stories, new memories
Soaking up every bit of you you’ll give me

You so easily evoke a dormant feeling
Filling what once was empty with butterflies

This started in such a sad way, but I ended up smiling by the end. A lovely read for sure.
