You think he’s the devil
But he has prayed for you
Deeply for your soul
For all the good it will do
He has prayed for your family
As he watches them at night
Outside of your house
As he set it alight

They think you’re a saint
But he knows that you sin
You want to be saved
Then just let him in
They think you are righteous
You know that you are wrong
That’s why you wait for him
When he’s been here all along

Darkness and monsters
As internal as the heart
As eternal as insecurity
The demon that rips you apart
Save yourself and family
From this narcissistic theft
He says if you wait any longer
Then there will be nothing left

I love this. It eloquently shows the difference in how we truly know ourselves to be, and how we are or wish to be perceived.
We all have our demons. Not all of us take the effort to become aware of them.
