Purgatory

by Kate   Oct 28, 2021

Blackened waves dance turbulently
as I float upon their surface
With each crash against my body,
I inhale and drown a little more
Filling my lungs with the salted
reminder of all tears once shed
Selfishly pouring from my own eyes
I wish the sea would swallow me whole,
spit me out into my final hell
Instead, I drift along, no weight left
to my bones to drag me down
Just rotting flesh and the horrors of my mind
Drifting about aimlessly; this is my purgatory
Except there’s no heaven in sight

Immediately into my favourites, the poem is so well expressed and vivid it is totally absorbing, there's something about the style of this that reminds me a little of Poe. Wonderful write.
