Ripples in the Ocean

by Walter   Nov 4, 2021

Sometimes two people
Seem like they're meant to be
Although we know that love
Will not come easily

Take the girl and the boy
Who long ago both met
It was a chance encounter
And one they won't forget

Becoming friends at first
They shared so many things
Love turned them into puppets
And pulled each of their strings

Until many months had passed
Where fate was meant to play
On a cliff over the ocean
These words that he would say

"I have known you for a while
With each day we have shared
But our future makes me worry
And for this I'm unprepared

I know we're best of friends
Who have the strongest bond
But I feel like I'm the pebble
Being thrown into the pond

It might be a risk to chance
As pebbles do not float
Although you'll see my ripples
And how much I devote"

So overcome with joy
That she couldn't help but cry
Where she'd now turn to face him
No more would she deny

"Oh you don't know how long
I've waited to hear these words
But I thought it wasn't shared
And I was just absurd

Nor did I want to risk it
Our friendship we might lose
And I felt like I was drowning
Feeling so confused

But this must be a sign
Like the ripples that you sent
That nothing will break our bond
That's stronger than cement!"

Both caught in that moment
And about to share their lips
But her foot would step on pebbles
Causing it to slip

Letting out a scream
Though it was all too late
And before he even realised
She had met her fate

He leapt straight into action
Jumping right after her
But the ocean was like concrete
And the water they would stir

Where this produced the ripples
From where they both fell down
Their love would still be searching
Although they now have drowned

Destined all these ripples
Met without a doubt
But when they interacted
They both each cancelled out

Now sadly both their bodies
Lie in unknown graves
And ripples are no longer seen
Within the ocean waves
