Emancipation

by cassie hughes   Dec 1, 2021

At last awaken senses
dulled by subjugation
into colourless existence.
Throw back a head once
forced to sag under
exacting gaze.
Take a breath.
Exhale the butterflies from within
and set them free to fly,
scourging disquiet from
tangled insides.
Watch the rainbow carry
anxieties high and beyond,
dispersing into unknown ether
then heed,
as gossamer rustle
exchanges hurdles for peace,
leaving strength.
in its wake
