A timid dragon Shuffles out to greet the knight And though no sword is raised, Shrinks before the unarmed man, Ready for death's blow No hope for peace Just the raw, exposed flesh Of a dragon's neck Stretched forward, Almost Begging Silence any hope I have I cannot bear its weight It draws me from my cave, Into the reach Of arrows and swords A hopeful creature Should not live So end my hope And send me, bloodied, Sobbing to the grave - © Obscure 2021
