Boxes left unchecked

by Walter   Feb 1, 2022

Once when I was a child
I thought that dreams came true
As presents that were often wished
Magically came in view

Now that I'm an adult
I no longer believe in dreams
Reality is so often harsh
And not all that it seems

But maybe we are selfish
With all that we expect
Perhaps our dreams still exist
In boxes left unchecked

Sometimes blind to see
With all the things we choose
Ignoring what we have already
To be in someone's shoes

Although I have my health
And a place which I call home
Even though these things I never wished
Whenever thoughts would roam

I think that with our dreams
At times we should reflect
Appreciate all we have already
And not have to select
