Spare Minutes

Today just after work
I rush to catch my train
And arrive to a crowded station
Where everyone complains

The train is running late
An incident down the track
And everyone frustrated
From this small setback

Finally, we would leave
But quickly things look bleaker
An announcement we have to stop
Was playing on the speaker

We have to change our train
To one that wasn't there
And everyone's on their phone
Complaining of this despair

Nobody knows what happened
And an hour we are late
But I have this dreaded feeling
While we all would wait

Finally at my station
And to my car I walk
Then starting up the engine
I hear the radio talk

A news break which was playing
Speaks of problems on the rail
Someone in critical condition
A seventeen year old female

She fell between the gap
Of the platform and the train
And has been rushed to the hospital
To try and heal her pain

And this just strikes a nerve
Do people no longer care?
That poor young girl is dying
Totally unaware

With everyone so impatient
Her survival's looking weak
I wish these selfish people
Would think before they speak
