You Don't Know What It's Like

by kellie goldman   Jul 14, 2004

This poem was written by one of my not-so-close friends, but I really understand what she's trying to say. She won an award for it at school so I thought I'd put it here. Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

Do you know what it's like to not be perfect?
You make fun of us, because you don't understand.

Not being perfect, you don't know what it's like
Your words, they hurt and stab at us like spikes.

It's not our choice to be heavy, or weird,
But how would you like it, if we laughed
If you grew a beard?!

Being different can be good, but instead
We're aliens, freaks, losers
Because we're not like you.

Aliens, freaks, and losers
Are what make the world go round.

Having different ideas can help you see,
What it's like, to be like me.
