Light Wave

by Xaque   Feb 26, 2022

Sun rays diffract in my eye contact
in fact
nothing is truly intact

Upon the impact
of light from a distant constellation
us living beings adapt
to experience coloration

Emblazoned across
the cracked fragmentation of nighttime
alchemical mutations interact
colliding

Dying
in a white-hot stinging abrasion

Scarred in a shifting fiery dislocation
on the fragile surface
of our earthly illustration

I just had to nominate this! It packed a punch, along with the rhyme and choice of words. This, and your previous poems, read like a breath of fresh air, and I like your style. I feel this piece could have been too technical, or too focused on physics where it detaches from poetry, but here, it's mesmerizing. I was hooked and the images, that sometimes we can't fully understand or process, were so vivid. I really liked the last lines of "the fragile surface of our earthly illustration" - it reminded me how vulnerable we are as humans, and how the world around us, how light shifts and energy is constructed, is kind of awe-inspiring. Especially when we can only see a sliver of light, and only so much is visible to the naked eye.
