I am so ECSTATIC to see you writing everyday for National Poetry Month! And I must admit, this particular piece made me a little emotional this morning. There's something so loving and tender, and it feels slightly different than your usual pieces that are formatted in the center, etc. I don't know all the ways how and why this is my favorite, but it is. I definitely think this could be interpreted in many ways, but for me, I personally connected to it with grieving someone right now. Someone who was a part of EVERYTHING I did. And I carry his memory around - in photos, in stuffed animals, in literally anything I can find reminding me of him... and that last part about them being your lucky charm got to me, resonated with me. I also could see the poem as directed toward more of a presence, not a specific person, or vice versa, someone who is not with you in all the ways they used to be, yet they still give and are there when you need them. And they kind of transcend life and death, if that makes sense. |
