The Last Leaf On The Tree

by Shaun Cronick   Jul 8, 2022

The last leaf on the tree,
Is the strongest of them all.
Resisting frosts and winds,
So determined not to fall.

Along comes a little girl,
As weak as a mere kitten.
Plucks said leaf with ease,
With it she is so smitten.

She cleans and nourishes it,
This fruit of her endeavour.
Into her pressed flower book,
Where it shall live forever.

Pride of place on page one,
This loved leaf is happy to be.
Glad to be out of the cold,
The last leaf once upon a tree.
