Environmental Impact

I followed a river, which started off small
It twisted and curved, from an edge it'll fall
Into a lake, that gathered below
I was intrigued and there I'd follow

In here it lay still, a tranquil scene
An oasis that gathered, pure and pristine
The water so clear, that you could see through
And animals that thrived, more than a few

But out in the distance, surrounded by woods
Man left his mark, while searching for goods
A path that was made, where trees all fell down
Man and his greed, established a town

A pipe in the lake, provided his thirst
Declaring it's his and he was here first
Animals remained, although they'd all strive
The water that drained, was how they survived

But man was so cruel, just thought for himself
The water and clay, would bring him great wealth
Ingredients he'd need, to build and to live
And so man would just take, although would not give

This would go on, as man would pollute
The footprints he left, were savage and brute
Nature would weep, as the lake would all drain
But not even with tears, could nature sustain

There is so much truth in this, and a need for reflection on how we treat our surroundings, and everything that gives us life! Beautiful rhyming as always, Walter. I think it's always good to have reminders of the little things we can do to be more mindful, especially if we say how much we love nature and enjoy the beauty of it. Part of caring is seeing what we can do, even if it doesn't feel like it would make much of a difference. Hope you've been well!

Thank you Poet for your comment and reading. I think we're living in a time where nature is disappearing at a such a rapid rate. And it would be very sad for our wellbeing not to have its healing effects if one day we no longer find it among us. Hope you are well too!
