She’s a Fighter

And so she cradles her bewildered head in her lap, trying to remember sane days with silver linings, smiling faces pushing her chin higher, long nights surrounded by calm conversations, the love that will leave her riddled with despair and hope, and finally time colored clocks updating fear of mistakes made, she’s a battler in the midst of swirling sud blindness, counted lines of remorse praying stronger thoughts prevail, she’s not giving up, life was always meant to prosper beyond tormented doubt, always meant to conquer upon graceful cherub wings, she will make it, faithfully forgiven, fearlessly flying, she’s a fighter.

This is a poem I wrote at the start of my recovery 8 years ago, I wanted to share it with anyone struggling, just know that you can be forgiven for the mistakes you’ve made during your addiction, I’ve learned that’s what holds a lot of us back from getting help, the shame and guilt we feel for those we’ve hurt, how will they ever forgive me? Forgive yourself first, and then you will know.
