Where Once Was Love

by The Parrott King Jordan R. Stephens   Nov 9, 2022

Yesterday found itself far from home.
Running from what home will be;
What home has been.
What home?

Yesterday was Theia’s gift-
a golden fog. Deification last seen
through the eyes of a small child.
Yesterday was Haphaestus’s axe-
a weapon designed to cleave
its own firm grip from all it holds dear.
Yesterday was the titan Mnemosyne.
Bringer of all. Creator and inspiration.
Reminder of all that roams free;
of all that cannot be captured.

But what of tomorrow?

As Selene rides high, raining light
upon Gaia, from whose womb
sprung all that is and all that will be,
the bittersweet memories of life
and love and lust
are long forgotten -
their patrons left to mourn;
mother, smiling through tears,
hefts a mighty fist and presses on.

Love and life and lust.
Pillars stood on by the mightiest giants
crumble, their great strength
turned to dust.
Today, the titans stumble;
they fall. And what of tomorrow?
What will fill the void
where once was love?
