to my cousins that are now memories

by Patrick Watson   Nov 13, 2022

it’s all jagged about my edges
I am an emotionally driven, person
paying attention to the open sky [nature]
sometimes life can be like a candle, flickering [vulnerable]

you can close your eyes, nothing is going nowhere
you are you, no hiding allowed
pretending, is like pissing in your pants
it only keeps you warm for a minute

life is touching me
moving me deeply
as they leave my world, one by one
memories so mundane, but oh so dear!

there is a tear in the corner of my eye
a rip in my heart
it’s all jagged about my edges
cats in among the pigeons
no way I can just walk away!
life’s teaching me like always

Love the description you painted about pretending. Great poem.
