Crossing my very own Rubicon

by Patrick Watson   Nov 17, 2022

Is it necessary to go through the ‘charade’?
We are not in this alone, no matter how it feels
Lip service to a cult and their rituals
“silence no hooting”

A mood of deep concentration pins me down
It has grown dark around such matters
Tithing with the accompanying blessing
A commercial slant to God?

I am not your village atheist, kicking stones
Or the fence sitting agnostic
Pissing on everyone’s parade
Do I sound distrustful?

I believe in God, love the church and fellowship
Cherrie picking my beliefs
Sifting out the crap
Knowing Jesus as a mentor, not saviour
The pilot, to the light, banishing dark thoughts

I am not technical-minded
But I do own my own thoughts
And balanced evaluated facts dominate for me
The grain of ‘truth’ out weights the rest

I am not about to sell my soul to the highest bidder
