Just Checking

by Walter   Mar 1, 2023

Before it's too late, or an excuse you might find
It doesn't take much, to have peace of mind
And recommended, at least once a year
To have yourself checked, so you know you're clear

It's a silent killer, if you didn't know
What to look for and where it might show
You might think it's a sunspot, or maybe a mole
When in fact it's malignant and out of control

The longer untreated, the worse it would be
It's not wise to ignore, this enemy
And often this battle, does not have a cure
There's only so much, that you can endure

I was once guilty and thought I knew best
Convincing myself, I don't need a test
But I got a skin check, my wife would persist
And they found a spot, that my eyes missed

The doctor removed it, from my forehead
Looking suspicious and thought it would spread
She sent it away, to have it all checked
And yet that one spot, I didn't suspect

For one whole week, I only had doubt
When I returned, my stitches came out
She said I was lucky and now in the clear
That spot she removed, was turning severe

Precancerous was, how she described
But now it's removed, the cancer denied
I cannot tell you, how much I'm relieved
When I almost denied, this test to proceed

So all you out there, I hope I'll convince
You're reading my poem and taking hints
I wouldn't have bothered, if not for my wife
But by taking this test...It could save your life
