You Are Your Mothers Daughter

by Soph   May 15, 2023

You complain about your mother
But yet you are her
Everything that you so deeply hate is just a mere reflection of yourself
The way she looks, down from the very point of her nose to that small tooth gap that you both share
The way she goes deathly silent when she’s mad
The way the whole house feels the heavy burden of her being upset
You nit pick at everything your mother does
Is it because you see the similarities?
You talk about how deeply your mother has scarred you not physically but mentally
Yet you do the same to others, repeating the same cycle that you fear
And yet you are too blind to realise it
Or maybe you do but are too scared to admit it
For everything you hate about your mother is what you will once be and already are
Yet the cycle continues
The more you run the undeniable fate becomes clear

A sad, well-written poem reflecting a story of a mother and daughter. We all carry learnings from our parents. But at times it is difficult to see in ourselves what others see in us.
    Nicely done
