Emotion

by Obscure   May 17, 2023

Let me be a monster.
Then I can trust
that you will search for me
under the bed
and watch for me
in shadows.

Isn't fear a sort of love?

Let me be the wind.
So I can wrap around your form
and kiss the skin above your collar.
I cannot hold you in this form,
so I will linger gently along your jawbone
while I wail.

Let me remind you that you are here.
I touch you with my words
and you feel your soul writhe within you.

How does it feel?
To sense a thing
And never know its name?

(I tried to personify an emotiont that you can't name, but it didn't come out right)

Oh I love this idea, and the ending lines with the question sort of taunting the reader...

Definitely felt unsettled and uncomfortable reading this, and I think you pulled that off well. Conflating love with fear, the intimate way you describe haunting this person and almost suffocating them. Not letting them be free, or experience clarity. It reminded me of being confused about what we need, so we seek out familiar things that aren't good for us. Like how depression can be a comfort because it seems impossible to imagine a future or to not be hopeless and stuck. So the negative thoughts and feelings circulate and feed off of each other.

Really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing!
