The Great Divide

by Maher   Jun 12, 2023

There was a time when neighbours spoke,
with smiles and fun and laughs and jokes.
In the day the kids would play
and by dusk they'd be packed away.
A trade of food maybe twice a week,
repaid in kind by gifts and sweets.

Be they Christian, be they Muslim,
be they Jew, or no religion.
People spoke and poeple shared,
some would preach, some would declare.
Many times they'd disagree,
but through it all, they all found peace.

But here, today, we're led by shame.
Our leaders play a mighty game:

"Divide them all, infect their speech,
instill raw hate in every breach!
Make them claw and take their sides,
by no means let them unite!
Ban their free and human views,
only we can tell the truth!"

"Bind their mouths and keyboards shut,
control their minds and actions thus!
Keep them poor lest they awake
from the lies and drugs we have them take!
Feed them scraps at a lofty cost
and drain their health to keep them lost!"

"Confine them all in cities made
fifteen wide by no escape!
Cage them in a digital maze;
we'll decide on what they graze!
Their carbon prints will keep them burnt,
and with the Green, our vaults will burst!"

This is not conspiracy,
this, they now speak openly.
There is still time to make a change.
We must unite and beat their game.
Faith, gender and race can wait.
We must fight back before it's too late.

It is, but this is the world we're in. It will keep getting sadder if people don't wake up, but there's still some hope left :)
