Summer Springs

by Ben Pickard   Jun 20, 2023

How green the shoots that all conspire
To bring the winter down!
They strain towards the warming light
On high and all around.
With sinuous ferocity,
They strive for pastures new;
The frost stands watch complacently
While summer springs anew.
And look as bluebells start their reign
On unclad woodland floor!
They leave upon my eye a stain
Of blue forevermore.
The cuckoo's call is heard upon
The meadows and the greens -
And yonder darts a dragonfly
By rivers, ponds and streams.
The lazy and the fuzzy hum
Of summer has returned
And happiness has lately sprung
On all that winter spurned.

Sometimes it's almost impossible to find the right words to express wonder towards something. Like me, now, towards this incredible poem.
Every letter here has found its perfect place. Everything just feels right.
    Thank you, Mr. Pickard.
