exaggerated

you catch a glimpse of my glassy eyes, and you decide your goal is to shatter them. break me into shards no one can see, so i hope they get stuck in your feet as you walk all over me.

“your happiness is my happiness”
that’s exaggerated. this is true only as long as my happiness fits into the parameters of the box you've created for my happiness to live.

“i would do anything for you”
again, exaggerated. this is true only if what you ask is easy and materialistic. it can be nothing that requires sacrifice on your part. then, anything is limited to your sense of ease.

“what can i do to help”
what you mean is what can you do that doesn't require real effort, but is enough to make you feel good about yourself, like you actually did something for my benefit and not yours. your badge of honor, shiny and proud.

everything said is empty and now i am scared, scared i am losing my softness. i have become afraid to jump in, tenderly stepping on each stone, moving from hurt to hurt. when i got to the end there were no more stones or steps so i started sinking. thankfully i reach for the soft hand of sunlight that is pulling me out.

cleansed of all the rot and decay you brought me - i am unknowable, i am inhuman, i am the most human i’ve ever been. i have scars from my kindness and wounds that can make it hard to breathe. all because you have taught me the most valuable lesson: you being broken is just an excuse for you to act poorly.
