I sank with the sun

by Ben Pickard   Jul 26, 2023

I waited for you
where the sun meets the sea

and
sinks

to the other side

the water boiled
and evaporated,
leaving only
salt and screams -

I waited for you

but
you
never
came

I, too, can't get over the part of "leaving only salt and screams - ". And it's so wild that I saw Star's comment yesterday and am currently listening to Hozier on a playlist right now! Can't get over this poem. The title alone is so powerful and sorrowful in its meaning.

Past the interesting imagery of the title and the strong verses, there's still the choosing of each word to talk about - the poem's overall short but shows as much as a thousand words could. Rich and thoughtful work, Ben.

    “the water boiled

This part is soooo good, I want to steal it. It makes feel like it’s a part of really great lyrics. It reminds me of Hozier’s if you know him.
    Awesome poem!!
