I Know The Concrete Scares You Too

by Ben Pickard   Aug 2, 2023

I sleep beneath the untamed vines,
On mossy earth and fleshy leaves.
I write beneath the oak and pines
And try to rhyme what nature weaves.
~ This peace I've found
Is so profound,
That life no longer frightens me ~

A petal stroked, a flower kissed,
Evokes a sense of harmony,
So now the sunlight dries the mist
Around the fields and open sea.
~ How light the road
That once bestowed
An awful sense of dread in me ~

Catharsis comes in many ways -
In rivers' blues and meadows' greens -
But terror comes in concrete greys
That are the blight of nature's dreams.
~ I know what's done
Can be undone
So pack your things and follow me ~

I have an image of you with your backpack on, traipsing moors and mountains with a line of devoted followers behind you, escaping the concrete jungle!
Brilliant imagery as always Ben =^.^=

This is so incredibly calming and perfect to read as I start my day! I wish I had more words, but you've captured the ultimate peace that nature provides. I've shared it recently with people how being out in nature grounds me, and I feel parts of me more aligned, like things are "whole" in the moment even if I don't have things really figured out. Thank you for these beautiful verses. I love the rhyming and it also reminds me that even if we feel the dread is something permanent, we can get relief at times.
