When Words Will Never Leave

by Walter   Sep 20, 2023

It first started when in school
With her results from a test
And although she barely passed
She did her utmost best

Her mother asked when she came home
What was her final score
The girl told her she didn't fail
But couldn't do anymore

Furious her mother would scold her
And said that this won't do
"You'll just have to study harder
When exams are due!"

The girl began to doubt herself
And always took the blame
That she'd never be good enough
Whatever she became

Beginning now to push herself
And always tried to please
Struggling to keep up with life
Constantly at unease

And even when she first moved out
With love she thought she found
Her mothers words inside her head
Still would come around

When her partner questioned her
In joking ways at first
Why she always seemed to struggle
Made her bubble burst

This was her final straw
Convinced now she had failed
Trying to stay on her tracks
But now became derailed

What seems simple for most of us
Might make others strive
Though we should never try to judge
Their struggles to survive

We all have our deepest fears
When imagining what we dread
But for some this is living life
With the voices in their head
