In the quiet of the night

by Eddie Hoyte   Jan 10, 2024

In the quiet of the night,
it's 2:03 on the clock,
thoughts of you persist,
like an unbroken lock.

You linger in my mind,
time slips away so fast,
wondering where you are,
and if our moments will last.

Constantly you cross my thoughts,
an unyielding mental stream,
knowing deep within,
you're the keeper of my dream.

Days drag on endlessly,
your presence in my head,
promised love forever,
words left unsaid.

Haunted by dreams at night,
echoes of what could be,
awakening in solitude,
yearning for you next to me.

Alone in this bed I lie,
pondering what's not true,
waiting for the sunrise,
as the clock ticks 2:42.

But in these swirling thoughts,
of love and endless pain,
I find solace in the fact,
it's just another night's refrain.
