Deep

by Tara-Kay   Jun 18, 2024

It pains me when I speak,
of those nights spent alone,
listening to old country
in my room back at home.

The dreams, I didn't dream,
words I was too afraid to even whisper,
and yet here I am,
proud to be my truth.

Pages of pretend, for even in rhyme,
I wasn't free.
It seems such a time ago
that I was everyone but me

It pains me when I speak,
of that girl too afraid
to have a voice,

Too afraid to tell the world,
to love unconditionally

It pains me. It pains me

It pains me, deep.
