One night when all dreams evaded
Beneath a starless sky
Dark as a cave
I wandered deep within the trees
Winter howled in my head yet I felt no breeze
I heard the stream before I saw it
Where I gazed at a laundress
Sitting in the ford
Her nightgown torn and gory
She whispered out a warning toward me
The tales my mother always told us
Flooded at me in rush
Fear in my heart
I ran my heathen legs back home
Where I was found never more to roam
They say when death it finds them
Life givers torn apart
Broken by fate
They refuse the offer for to go
Without those dear they will not know
So she sits and washes blood from clothes
Pray they are not yours
For if they are
You have not a soul to save
Those it is those clothes that will adorn you in your grave
