To Be A Kid Again

by CânnâBîsh   Aug 8, 2024

I'd give anything to be a kid again
Free as a bird
Flying with the wind
So innocent and carefree
Not worried about the struggles
Of a complicated reality
Not worried about work or bills
Just living day by day
Thriving for the thrills
Riding bikes with my friends
Down or uphill
With playing cards on the tires
To make our bikes "faster"
Dusk is when I get home
When the streetlights come on
Eating whatever
Without all the guilt
Sleeping cozily in bed
Underneath my favorite quilt
Not worrying about death
And losing loved ones so soon
Everyone's here
And I'm over the moon
Genuinely happy
Not scared of what's next
Knowing I'm truly okay
Without being stressed
Loving life to the fullest
Feeling my best
Playing cops and robbers
With my friends in the cove
Not knowing one day
We'd be off on our own
Just kids being kids
That's what I really miss
Adulting is overrated
And life is so hard
I just wanna go back
To when life was so simple
Not worried about dating
Or getting that pimple
Not worrying about my weight
Or the addictions I'll gain
Not worried about mental health
Or taking it day by day
I just wanna go back
To when we were all okay
Watching my favorite shows
On the couch at home
Sitting by the wall phone
In case anyone rang
Wanting to go outside and play
No computers or tablets
To keep us entertained
Just me and nature
Playing in the rain
Listening for the ice cream man
To get a special treat
In the hottest days of summer
To cool off from the heat
Going to the parks
So I could slide down the slides
Swaying on the monkey bars
Or you go seek and I'll hide
Not taking anything for granted
Not wanting to get high
Not having to be so serious
All the fxcking time
I'd give anything to be a kid again
Free as a bird
Flying with the wind
So innocent and carefree
Not worried about the struggles
Of a complicated reality
