Don't Forget Us

Don't Forget Us

Don't forget us,
when you've moved on,
the memories that brought us together.
The connection we had, the love we made,
once you are years into something better.

Don't forget us,
when you are looking at her,
and her eyes sparkle back as mine did.
Don't forget how I was someone else,
and that you found new love instead.

Don't forget us,
when you are beside her in bed, a mess.
Holding her hand, touching her skin, fingers fled.
Caressing her body, stroking her flesh.
Remember that could have been me instead.

Don't forget us,
when you are kissing her lips,
And they just don't quite feel like mine.
And don't forget the fairy tale love that we had;
a story that started with once upon a time.

Don't forget us,
and the jokes that we shared,
and the laughs that made you a lover and friend.
Don't forget all the small moments we took,
when your heart has fled and is on the mend.

Don't forget us,
and our dance class when,
we couldn't dance at all, but it was me and you.
I would have danced with you forever at once,
if losing our love was something that I knew.

Don't forget us,
when she smiles at you,
and you felt I wasn't happy at all.
But you didn't know I was smiling within;
some girls smile big, and some girls
smile small.

Don't forget us,
when you are living with her,
and the love between you grew.
A fleeting thought of me, a reminder.
Just know I won't forget you.

And I am so scared, I am pleading with you,
not to forget the love that we shared.
I am glad that we met, our love did exist;
when two souls could have been anywhere.

Don't forget us,
when you've moved on,
the memories that brought us together.
The connection we had, the love we made,
once you are years into something better.
