first times

by writer   Sep 25, 2024

first times,
we met when the sky was still dark,
there were puddles around,
in your car, with hippie songs.

this doesn't happen all the time,
i was running away from highs and wine,
until i met you
and we lost track of time
in the middle of the night,
two souls,
fingers intertwined,
our lips collide.

this happens only every other lifetime.
we kissed and i felt
like you'd touch me and i'd melt.
roses are maroon under your rule,
you vaporise all the blues.

you brought all my guard down,
i'm doing things i never would allow,
i'm lost in thoughts, in dreams, in memories,
in silent prayers:
please, dear lord, save me!

time slipped by
when we lost track of it,
and now it doesn't seem to proceed.
i'm stuck in a loop
of vivid memories:
i see your face
from when you turned around,
i see your name
when i read each of my own lines,
it seems like witchcraft
that i wrote everything i felt
before i even felt it,
everything i am thinking of
before i even thought it.

your name as rare as it is,
will you take me to the rarest of spaces
in this world where we can be,
some place
all their money and expensive cars can never take me.

  • Hi,
This is such a great poem. I had to read twice. I was a bit confused at first, but I love how the title is well reflected in the poem. The only thing I can really critique is the absence of capitalization. I used to write poems like this and for me it took away from my poems. Your poem however is not missing anything, it truly paints a vivid picture, and the use of metaphors are well placed which allow for visualization.
I'll keep reading your work. =)
