One Last Time

by Walter   Oct 30, 2024

Before you go, before you leave
Think back to what we achieved
We married young, you became my wife
Our vows we swore, to be for life

And I know years can take the toll
Emotions sometimes lose control
The love we feel not like before
When hearts at times are yearning more

More often now I see a side
The one from me you try to hide
Do you not think that I know you well?
To read between the words you tell?

Tread lightly on the ground we share
And convinced I'm not aware
Make excuses for our times apart
Then leave your strings to pull my heart

I try my best not to trip
But can't avoid a sinking ship
Many years ago we now set sail
No longer though we share a trail

Before you go, before you leave
Please take a moment just to breathe
One last time look me in the eye
Before you leave and say goodbye
