When Gold turns into dust

by Denis Albert Mshiu   Dec 1, 2024

I once possessed the world
And lost it all in shattered dreams
I have dropped my gold medal
Too heavy to pick up.

People I thought would take a bullet for me
Now the bullets
Are aimed at me.

Laughter once shared
Turned into mockery
People promised to be on my side
Yet they vanished, leaving me to freeze.

Gravestone on my soul
Regrets of trusting
Storm clouds heavy and grey
No one to shelter me
Left to be a stray.

This is life's cruel art
Loved when you shine
Hated when you have nothing to give.
