She shrieks within the confines of the night,
Her hopes and dreams crushing, as if her bones, under the pressure
To please those that she surrounds herself with in her plight
To prove her worthiness within the Aether.
The demons that she once called her friends circle around her,
Their deceitful beauty as breathtaking as the very first sight –
Leaving a tired body to lay upon a blood-dirtied ground to endure
Their whispered lies.
With each attempt to stand, they laugh -
The sound cracking like a thorn-laced whip beside her ears;
Their hands push her down and trap
The last ounce of will that she was able to muster amongst her fear.
Waterfall tears stain porcelain skin
As haunted sapphires search for a lifeline
Amongst the smoke that surrounds a repressed soul; therein
Lies the echoes of a girl’s devastated cries.
She staggers to her feet with her chest heaving slowly,
Her battered being sways as a smile colors her bruised lips, its appearance unholy.
Her eyes grow black as vengeance courses through her depleted veins,
Her hands, now stained crimson, raise a lit match for them all to see –
Their smiles falter as she perseveres through the pain
To drop the fire to her feet.
The flames seductively wrap around her frame to rest peacefully between her shoulders,
Unraveling themselves to present as wings to raise her above
All that which she had sacrificed herself for –
Just to attempt to capture a taste of what she thought was love.
As she becomes the inferno, they fall to their knees
Begging for the same mercy she once had from them –
The laugh that she allows to escape her burning lungs overruns their pleas
As she hisses a verse to condemn:
“Thou hast plucked the petals from a delicate being,
Leaving a shell to rot amongst the dirt;
With your demise, I am set ablaze and claim my reign,
Like a phoenix, I am born again.”
The world shall crumble beneath her strength,
And may God have mercy on those who betray
The vulnerable girl hugged by flame.
