My Very Own

by Alleycat   Jan 17, 2025

He cares deeply and holds her close,
It's clear to see that he loves her most.

Tagging along just to be the third wheel,
At least in my heart that's how I feel.

Being pushed aside to make the time,
A mountain of anxiety I began to climb.

What if I'm too much? What if he moves on?
My thoughts continue to race past dawn.

Berating, belittling and abusing myself,
These lonely nights are not good for my health.

Opening a line of honest communication,
Helping to remove the feeling of isolation.

Finally seeing things for what they are,
My imagination and reality were so very far.

It is clear to see how much he cares,
He is not the one who compares.

Seeing how happy she makes him feel,
It's just what I needed to help me heal.

Redirecting the harmful emotions,
For their happiness I would cross oceans.

She is not just his, she is so much more,
She is my very own metamour.
