Let Us Cry in This Embrace

by ddavidd   Mar 1, 2025

Let me cry in this embrace—
if there is still an embrace left,
O my friend.

I am alone beside you,
with you,
among these passersby.

And yet, I am the only thing
that does not pass you by.
Even you—
you, too, leave me alone.

O loneliness.
I am alone,
for I do not pass,
wandering this labyrinth of longing.

Even you—
O my friend, my heart within me—
abandon me to myself,
passing me by
like a dead-end alley.

Let me cry in this embrace,
for the world
smells of weeping.
